The Microbial Biotechnology Research Group was formed in 2001, and the Group is currently led by Professor Geoff McMullan. The strategy of the Microbial Biotechnology Research Group has been to develop excellence in both the basic understanding of microbial processes and function and the application of this knowledge to issues of medical and biotechnological importance. The collaborative ethos of the group allows responsive research to be carried out when required by industry or government agencies. This approach to research is reflected in the funding sources of the group which range from EU funded research networks to multinational agrochemical company funding. The group is strongly involved in issues of technology transfer having strong collaborative research links with industry, government and the health service. Additionally the group has been strongly involved in the Northern Ireland technology foresight exercise and in the development of a Northern Ireland Bioscience park on the Coleraine campus of the University of Ulster. The group also has an active research programme associated with University’s Centre of Excellence in Functional Genomics. For further information please contact: |
